There are lots of people in UK that do not know that there are other internet service provider (ISP) who do not require a BT active line to give broadband access. People who do not know, they eventually pay more. The key solution is research and review. With the rapid growth of internet and with the up coming technology, people need to move on quickly from dial-up broadband to high speed broadband to enjoy the real benefits of the internet such as watching movies online,Tiscali Broadband getting to know the weather in an interactive way, watching new video streaming websites such as YouTube, BBC iPlayer, clips on metacafe, other online video websites and many wonders.

First thing that you need to keep in mind is your budget, area you are moving to and how long you will stay at the new place. Well, if you live in UK, then you have quite a lot of choices to get high speed broadband. I will name a few but the list is endless and growing constantly. Companies like Virgin, BT, Tiscali, TalkTalk, Post Office, Be, Orange, O2 etc are the leading players in the market providing different packages and promotions. As I said, there are lots of other companies that do provide internet access with different criteria and pricing.

I am confused, which one should I go with?
Well, if you are confused then I don’t blame you. To be honest, this field is very confusing, its pretty much like doing algebra or preparing for an assignment. So what do you do then? I will lay down few questions to answer which might take away some confusion.

1) Are you looking for a limited or unlimited broadband?
This is a tricky question and the answer could also tricky, it all depends how much you understand.

What is limited broadband?
Limited broadband would be something like where you will be allowed some kind of limit to your usage. This is not a limit to what you can access or where you can access, but simply how much of data you can access. Let me make it simple by giving an example, assume you sign up with an internet broadband provider and you are given a package which is limited to usage per month i.e. 15GB (15 Gigabyte) or 40GB. Now to break this down, imagine 15GB to be as £15,000 & 40GB as £40,000, which you get to spend per month. What would you do with this money? Spend on different stuffs that you can think of. Relating to broadband, now each time you access a page on the internet you loose some allowance from your 15GB (15,728,640KB). If you access the front page of Google, it takes approximately 120KB of your allowance every time you visit it, and if you do a search on Google and the page loads up with the searches it will take another 300KB approx of your allowance and the process carries on. Some people believe to think that browsing is not classed as downloading. In plain term, browsing a page or a site is same as downloading as the requested page or site is downloaded from a server to your computer and stored as temporary files. So imagine if you keep on refreshing the page you will all the time take your allowance out of your given allowance. So be wise before you sign up.

What is unlimited broadband?
The word “unlimited” says the whole meaning. In plain language, it means there is no limit, no capping to you access on the internet. However, some internet providers states it as unlimited broadband but also states “fair use policy”, which simply means you can access the internet 24/7 without any limit but do not use for extremely constant heavy downloading as it will create a strain on the network and will effect other uses on the same exchange and making everyone’s broadband speed to be slower than expected. When you sign up with any broadband provider check the data allowance (CAP) whether it’s limited or unlimited. Tiscali provides all their broadband packages as unlimited usage with “fair use policy”.

2) What is you budget per month?
This is where your logic is required. Use a very simple calculation, such as what is the rent per month for the broadband and for the phone line. Add both up and multiply by 12 or 18 (12 months or 18 months contract length). Let’s assume you signed up with BT broadband, and broadband rental as £15 per month with unlimited usage and your BT phone line rental is £10.50 per month. So per month you would be paying £15 + £10.50 = £25.50 per month. Now per year your total cost (without phone calls) would be £25.50 x 12 = £306 per year. Is this in your budget?

On the other hand, in most of the areas Tiscali provides “Free Line Rental”, which means you do not have to pay the monthly line rental as you would pay with BT and other phone line providers. Hence giving you saving of £10.50 per month (£126 per year) from BT and other phone providers. This looks like a better offer. Current promotion of Tiscali (as of writing this post), they are offering up to 8meg broadband + free line rental + free weekend calls to UK landlines + free international calls to certain destinations + free modem all for £14.99 per month for 12 months contract. Can you beat that?

3) How many people are going to use/share the internet access?
If you are sharing a room and there are other people who use internet, they it will bring your cost down by the number of people sharing. In order to share the internet, get a wireless router with 4-5 LAN ports so that each PC or Laptop can be connected to access the internet at the same time. You do not have to pay the internet service provider any extra money for sharing your broadband within the house.

If you are only one who is going to use the internet, they you probably do not need a wireless router, a wired modem will do the job without any problem. However, if you want to make the broadband access wireless within the house then get yourself a wireless router and replace your wired modem and get wireless broadband at home. This is not a rocket science, it’s simple and very easy, just follow the instruction provided in your wireless router.

4) Are you going to be in your new/existing place for 12 months or over?
This is plainly because of the contract term you have to sign up with your broadband service provider. If you are going to be at your place where you want to get internet package for at least one year then Tiscali broadband packages are on 12 month contract, however if you decide to live at your new place for couple of months then a 12 or 18 months contract will probably not be an idle one for you. If there are other people who will be living at that place for atleast 12 months or more then get the broadband connect under their name and share it with them.

If you answer the above questions correctly, them you should not go wrong in choosing the best broadband service provider for you. Presently, Tiscali with its free line rental offer is perfect for anyone who is looking for a high speed unlimited broadband connect and don’t want to pay line rental. If you are a foreigner in UK and you call abroad from the “international calling counties list” which Tiscali provides free calls to then make the most of it by signing with Tiscali broadband + phone package for only £14.99 a month (price correct as of writing) including the phone line rental. If you are new to UK or an international student, then paying for your line rental would not be a great idea as you are looking to save money and get a better package. Why not send us your name and number and one of our broadband specialist team will contact you to discuss with you the best package that would suit your needs and pricing. Simply click the button “Contact Me I Want To Know More” and fill in your details and wait to be contacted.

I sometimes feel that looking and researching for broadband is just like studying for your final exams or doing an assignment. The main purpose of this post is that there are hundreds and thousands of people not aware that they can get cheaper broadband deals than what they are paying at the moment, and also with bit of extra effort they could make their broadband for FREE. Yes, FREE, you read it right. How is this possible? Check it out for yourself.
